What door frame and jamb repair costs
Frame repairs are priced by the visit. Most of them, a loose strike, sagging hinges, a split that takes epoxy and a few long screws, fit in one stop and come in at the visit minimum on the hub price list. A rotted exterior jamb that needs a new section is a longer job and the estimate says how long.

What moves the price
- Repair or replace decides most of it. A split we can glue, clamp and screw is an hour. A leg that is rotted past the lock height comes out and a new one goes in, which is half a day with paint.
- Exterior jambs take more than interior ones. They get a rot resistant replacement piece, flashing checked, primer on every cut end and two coats of exterior paint.
- Security hardware adds time. Resetting a deadbolt keeper with a steel reinforcement plate and three inch screws into the stud is the right repair after a break in, and it is more work than a plain strike.
- Painting to match is included on a small repair. If the whole jamb and casing need repainting because the old paint is failing, that is a line on the estimate.

Cost questions
- My front door will not latch unless I lift it. Is that the frame?
- Usually the top hinge. The screws have stripped out of the jamb and the door has dropped. Long screws into the framing fix it in most houses, and we check the strike after. If the jamb itself has split at the hinge, it gets repaired the same visit.
- Can you fix a kicked in door frame the same day?
- Most of the time. Text a photo and the address. If the jamb is split but still there, we repair it and reinforce the strike that day. If the framing behind it is broken, we secure the door that day and come back with the lumber.
- Is a rotted jamb bottom a repair or a new door?
- A repair, unless the rot has climbed past the lock. We cut the bad section out, scarf in a rot resistant piece, seal it and paint it. The door stays. You only replace the unit when the sill and both legs are gone.
